UPDATE: 'Oppose' have occupied the UAL rector; Nigel Carrington's office today for 6 hours, resulting in a meeting with the deputy rector for an hour to air their views. See their blog at the bottom of this article for latest updates.

Students from London College of Communication last night (09/11/09) occupied the Main Lecture Theatre over changes implemented by senior management. The group, 'Oppose', formed at the end of the academic year 08/09 in light of the 'efficiency programme' proposed by the recently employed head of college, Sandra Kemp. The programme presents 16 courses to be cut and approximately 180 staff to be made redundant.

Tower Hamlets College Strike Update

The Tower Hamlets College Strike continues.

Teachers again affirmed support for continuing the indefinite strike action in a mass meeting Tuesday. About 150 people voted to stay out, with 13 abstentions and no votes against. At the meeting a number of people expressed their understandable concerns about surviving longer with no income and more people talked about how students were suffering, but many more people argued that the students know what we're doing and support us.

We hope the school take it on face value based on the general gist and dont conitune to provaricate over the odd incorrectly worded statement.)

This morning the school responded by saying no to all of them except number

Parents in Lewisham Occupy School Roof

428405-thumb

The spirit of the Glasgow school occupation and the Visteon workers has spread and parents in a primary school in Lewisham have occupied the school roof in protest at its closure. Lewisham Bridge Primary School is a thriving community school, recently given a Grade II listing by English Heritage who have described it as having "special architectural and historic interest".

City based livery company Leathersellers wish to knock down the school and convert it into a Foundation School, something long objected to by many residents, but strongly supported by Lewisham Council.

Anger spilled over when parents began being forced to bus their children to another school over one and a half miles away whilst this historic building stands empty.

Canada (Toronto, Ottawa, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Mississauga, London, Guelph, Peterborourgh, Hamilton,
Scarborough, Kingston, Windsor), USA (Kentucky), Austria, Argentina, England (Gateshead, Manchester), Bulgaria, Serbia, Turkey (Istanbul, Izmir, Diyarbakir, Ankara), Egypt, Sierra Leone, (f.Y.R.o.) Macedonia, Netherlands, France, Ireland (Dublin, Galway).
though we did not have material from all those places the video is kind of small but tries to give at least a feeling of what happened at this day.

UAL College of Communication Occupied

Dsc_0410-thumb

In the wake of recent successwul demands to Universities, UAL students have asked their University to meet similar demands. Following a positive meeting with Rob Imeson, dean of students, alongside two equality and diversity officers on 11th of Feburary, the response received on February 18th reads very ambiguous, vague and inconsistent. After an event on Monday, 23rd, speakers Organised by the UAL Palestine Solidarity Network and the UAL Stop the War Society including Tony Bann and Mark Howell, students of the College of Communication occupied the Podium lecture theatre until their demands have been met by the University.

RAGE documents Class War on E1 Estate

As part of a 2006 stock transfer, Swan Housing took control of The Exmouth Estate from LBTH, promising improved services to everyone.??

Shortly after residents began to witness the emergence of a two tier class system on The Exmouth Estate.? Residents who blindly approved of development decisions by Swan benefited from well maintained living conditions.?

However things were much tougher for those residents who questioned Swan's decisions, as decay due to lack of maintenance set in.
